Easter Idea Blog – Ideas for Easter Crafts, Easter Decorations, Easter Dinner and Easter Flowers

What sort of crafts can I do with kids aged 4 – 10 based around Easter? I thought of painting hollowed out eggs, but are there any other things I could do?

I did this with my kids last year and they loved it – particularly as we put it in the middle of the table for everyone to admire on Easter Sunday lunch.

This would make a cute decoration on your table this Easter. If you make the Easter Bunny small, you could make several and use as place settings with the person’s name painted on the bunny.

Parental supervision is recommended with the use of the hot glue gun and wire cutters.
What you’ll need:

* 2 Terra-cotta pots (any 2 of same size)
* White Gesso (it’s like a primer – A preparation of plaster of Paris and glue used as a base for low relief or as a surface for painting.)
* Gold glitter craft paint
* Paint brush
* White felt
* Pink felt
* Scissors
* 2 Small wiggle eyes
* Hot glue or tacky glue
* Pink ribbon
* 1 Tiny pink pom pom
* 3 White pom poms (at least double the size of the pink pom pom)
* 2 Small silk rose buds
* Wire cutters

How to make it:

1. Base coat the two terra-cotta pots with white Gesso. Let dry.
2. Glue the terra-cotta pots together (see photo).
3. Cut a piece of ribbon to fit around the middle of the bunny. Glue in place.
4. Tie a bow with another piece of ribbon and glue on.
5. Add gold glitter craft paint on center of bow.
6. Glue white pom poms on right above ribbon (see photo).
7. Glue pink pom pom above and right between white pom poms.
8. Glue on wiggle eyes.
9. Cut out ears out of white felt. Cut ears a bit smaller out of pink felt. Glue together.
10. Glue ears on top of the bunny.
11. Cut the stems off the rosettes with the wire cutters.
12. Glue a ribbon rosette in front and in back of ears.
13. Glue bunny tail on the back of bunny, about half way up the bottom pot. Let dry.

We also made some cup cakes for dessert with little chocolate eggs on them. Everyone loved them and they had an easter theme. We put pink and light green icing so it all looked quite pretty.

They could make rabbit masks. Glue paper ears on top of a paper plate and use cotton balls to make the rabbit mask furry. Something like that maybe?

How about felting/needle felting? I have successfully needle-felted on styrofoam eggs and also wet-felted (using water & Marseille soap) egg-shaped items at least!

I did this in primary school and it was really fun. We had an Easter Hat Parade, so lots of people had bonnets and rabbit ears. I went a step further – I decorated a basket with lots of cotton wool and in it I put heaps of easter eggs, little rabbits made from cotton and lots of easter confetti etc… Then I attached it to an icecream container which was my hat and put a ribbon around my chin to hold it in place. Although it was really hard to wear, I won first place! You could do something like that but not so elaborate. Get them little baskets and they have to decorate it with ribbons and bunnies etc…
