Easter Idea Blog – Ideas for Easter Crafts, Easter Decorations, Easter Dinner and Easter Flowers

Next week I’m going to stay with my friend’s two kids, ages 6 and 8, while they are out on Spring Break. I need LOTS of ideas for how to entertain them. I’d appreciate any suggestions for:

arts and crafts activities
field trips and outings
upcoming kid movies on DVD
games
Easter games and activities
educational projects – science?

Any and all suggestions will be hugely appreciated! Can you help me?

A lot depends on the kids themselves: boy-girl? Interest? Maturity? Special needs? Without knowing these things it’s hard to be very specific. But here are some general ideas. Adapt them as you see fit.

Take them outside if possible to a zoo, park, children’s museum, on a hike (don’t forget a magnifying glass and binoculars), to the beach, swimming, wrestling, boxing (use pads), target shooting with BB guns. Do contest in the back yard to see who is strongest, fastest, best balance, highest/furthest jumper, etc. Cook something simple with them: pizza from scratch (ok cheat and use premade crust), soup, sandwiches, muffins, brownies, etc. Do character dress up, make cave man/girl outfits. Take turns pretending they have a broke arm while the other wraps it with guaze. Build an outside fort with scrap wood, or an inside fort with pillows. (A good one if you can do it): play house and really cleanup/vacume. Play act different movie scenes, or play their favorite time period (knights, space men, etc.). Dance and sing.

Take turns reading a good story book or a book of childrens poems. Use an art book and play "I spy". When they have exausted physically active things, or if they are really exasuted themselves, play board games, video games or (as a last resort) watch movie or TV.

get a Nintendo Wii, even though its a video game, most games are kid friendly and require lots of movement. That will be extremely fun for them. Search around I know some places rent those systems which would be cheaper instead of buying one. Also, finger panting is pretty cool. going to the park and playing flying kites with a picnic will be pretty memorial for them.

for arts and crafts, they might enjoy the ones suggested in disney.com, and other sites for kids. They might as well be happy if you cook together cookies or any snacks or maybe create a sundae or anything. For outings, go to museums or parks and zoos…

Don’t know what city you are in…. but here’s some ideas in case your city has any of these – you can go to the zoo (call them, some days you can get in for free), children’s museums are good (they usually have scientific activities, etc.). Card games can be fun – Go Fish, etc. You can go to some websites for craft stores (Michaels.com, Hobbylobby.com) and they have ideas of crafts for kids. One thing you can do is get colored construction paper. The kids can "weave" strips of construction paper together and create an Easter basket. Spend some time teaching them some kid’s songs and have them either do karaoke or make up a dance to go with a song or two. You can create a "performance" to present to their parents (we used to do this all the time as kids) – you can even charge "admission" and then take the kids out for ice cream or to a place like Putt Putt. Plan a trip to the park – have them help you make a basket of food (sandwiches, fruit, different veggies) so you can have a picnic there. While at the park you can collect different types of leaves and then go home and make pictures using the leaves. You can also go online and try to identify the type of tree that the leaves came from. Contact the local library – they have activities there that are fun and age appropriate and free! And just a thought – they don’t have to be busy doing things all day long. They can have some down time – be quiet, read a book. Kids have great imaginations – have them make up some Easter type characters. Draw them on paper. Then create an Easter story – maybe even putting it in writing and create a book. I did this with my kids – every day we would talk about our characters and make up something in their lives! Hope this is helpful!

but unlike you, we have to wait for the nicer weather. You can do it anytime.

Sand candles! We love doing them. I have done it with all the boys at different ages. We have a ball.

Get your self some pillar candles and a big bottle of Elmer’s Glue and a beach!

We wake around for a while collecting all kinds of odd things, shell, star fish, crabs, twigs, anything you like. Than we take the candles and drip the glue over the candle anyway you want, add sand, I like to use my hand as a funnel and let it pour down. Now add your items and let dry.

I just got an idea……where you are near the beach and it is Easter time, do sand eggs. This would be a little bit more delicate but just as much fun. Put a pin hole at both ends of egg, and blow out the insides. Now you can do exactly what I mention about the candles to the egss.

I know I have more idea’s, I will come back to the DB! Have fun…….

Oh one more just came to my mind ~ I real Shavenger Hunt!
