i am volunteering to help out my church have some fun things for the kids who attend…so far i’ve thought of having an egg hunt with prizes for the winners, a coloring contest of some easter picture, and baking some cute easter cupcakes for them…
are there any other ideas like arts and crafts projects they can do or other activities that can be fun for them??
these kids range in age from 2-13
THank you!
For the older kids maybe a balloon relay, split them into teams, each person has to run with the balloon between their legs down an obstacle course. The very last person on the team has to pop the ballon to win. (to make it more difficult, tell them they can’t touch the balloon with their hands).
The younger kids can try a relay carrying a hard boiled egg with a spoon. The younger the group, the larger the spoon should be (serving spoons for 2yr olds, smaller spoons for 5 yr olds)
For your egg hunt…why not try and make it into a scavenger hunt sort of thing with clues inside the eggs to lead them to their next egg. The last egg they find can have their “prize”.
One suggestion, I’d hand out prizes to ALL the kids, not just the winners. That way you can avoid tears from the losing teams.
Have Fun 🙂
I am having Easter dinner at my house. Due to different church and work obligations—people will be arriving and leaving over about a 4 hour period. I also have people who need to leave town early afternoon for their homes out of state, as well as people arriving later in the afternoon.
Pull out your crock pots…..borrow some if needed! Meatballs in sauce / Chili / Stew….list can go on & on. But having the foods in crock pots, you can keep them on low and everyone will have a warm meal. Have plenty of rolls to go with them. Keep the cold stuff in small containers instead of one large one….then bring one out at a time, instead of having the dish heat up/cool off all the time. Potato Salad, Deviled Eggs, Pasta Salad, etc……all fillers and go great as leftovers. Don’t make it too complicated…you want to enjoy it too, besides remember the REASON you are having them over — Happy Easter!
I don’t think Easter should be about gifts. It is about spending time with your family and having a nice quiet day at home. So I don’t want to fill it with a bunch of toys. I got him a Hot Wheels car, a stuffed giraffe and a couple eggs with cheerios and goldfish crackers inside. He is not allowed to have candy. He is too young for that much sugar.
What are you putting in your kids’ Easter baskets?
I feel the same way you do. I make it a point to not over do it. My family never over did it, but I remember my cousin’s family thought it was normal to spend $300 per child for Easter. They would spend almost a $1000 in total on Easter ‘gifts’. Gift certificates, you name it. I always thought it was crazy.
I got some great ideas from a question I asked the other day. What I plan on doing for my kids Easter ‘Buckets’ is:
Getting a couple plastic pales that have the shovels, rakes and what not in them (cost $1.50 each at Toys’R’Us right now). In them I am going to put a coloring book ($0.50 each) + crayon pack ($0.50 each). Going to add one of their favorite fruit juices, couple Kinder Surprise eggs (got a package of 12 for $2) and a chocolate bunny ($1 each). Then on the side I have picked them up a movie (Go! Diego Go! Dinosaur Adventures for $5).
My mom always got a ‘family movie’ as a gift to the family. It was usually a Disney movie of some sort. She did it because it kept us busy while she was cooking our big Easter Dinner.
I’m doing Easter dinner for the in-laws. I’ll have a Honeybaked ham, and a roasted chicken. The picky eaters insist on mashed potatoes & corn. Deviled eggs will be done. Any ideas on veggies/sides to go with all this?
